My Trip To Boston

My Po-po (maternal Grandmother) and Aunt Lai live in the Boston area, so Mom, Dad and I drove up to visit them around the Fourth of July in 1999.   I had a good time and got lots of attention.  There are lots of pictures for Dad to eventually organize, but here are a few to start with:

That's me and Po-po eating dim-sum in Boston's Chinatown.   She's feeding me Cheong-fun (rice noodles).  My first experience with chopsticks!  Yum! For those of you not familiar with dim-sum, it's basically a lunch which is served from morning until mid-afternoon. You sit at a table with an empty bill. Carts are wheeled around with various foods. When you hear something you want, you order it, the server puts a container of it on your table, then they indicate what you've ordered onto your bill. When you've had enough to eat, you take the bill up front and pay for what you've had. Lots of variety. It tends to be an outing for the whole family, so there are many large groups eating and talking. Lots of noise, and very informal. I got to meet and play with lots of kids at other tables.

On Tuesday, we went on my first boat ride, out to George's Island.  We didn't get off at the island, but the ride helped cool us down.  It was about 100 degrees and very humid that day.  Here I am with Aunt Lai on the boat.

Here I am with Mommy, Po-po and Aunt Lai in Boston's public gardens.  We went to ride the swan boats, but the weather was too hot, and the boats weren't running (the boats are propelled by the "captain" peddling them like a bike).
